Dr. Jonathan Lakey

Dr. Jonathan Lakey, PhD, MSM, is a globally recognized expert in cell isolation, stem cells, and diabetes research, with a focus on insulin-producing pancreatic cells. A graduate of the University of Alberta, he played a pivotal role in developing the "Edmonton Protocol," enabling severe Type 1 diabetes patients to become insulin-independent. As a Professor Emeritus at UC Irvine, he previously directed research in islet transplantation and stem cell applications. With over $90 million in research funding, 500+ publications, and numerous awards, including Canada’s Meritorious Service Medal, he has mentored many researchers and advanced biomaterials and diabetes therapies. Dr. Lakey co-founded a stem cell biotechnology company aiming for clinical trials in 2025 and serves on multiple scientific advisory boards, including GATC Health, where he leads AI-driven predictive health initiatives. His innovations extend to veterinary applications, solidifying his impact on both human and animal health.
